RADIO ADVERTISEMENT

For our research in to radio advertisements we went on to http://www.matrixradio.co.uk/ and this a radio advertisement website, on this website there are sample advertisement and the website also showed us what a radio advertisement should include in order to be successful.

According to http://www.matrixradio.co.uk/ Radio ads usually consist of all of the following features to attract listener’s attention:

  • Catches the listeners attention via catchy sounds
  • Making advertised
  • Sound effects
  • Scripting
  • Vocal acting
  • Catchy music identifiers
  • Special effects
  • Music
  • Jingles

When we create our radio advertisement we will aim to attract as many viewers as possible so we will use as much of the above components as necessary to pull them in to the advertisement, also our advertisement will only be 30 seconds long so that the listeners do not get bored or distracted whilst it is playing, also we hope by creating an advertisement that is short and straight to the point we hope the listeners will be completely focused on the ad and will be able to remember all the details, we also aim to make a catchy cliché jingle so that the listeners will remember the ad and be influence to watch our documentary.

Monday 9th - Friday 14th January

through this week we took a break due to our studies, we all had examinations within different subject areas therefore we had to study and we did not have enough time to work on the project. This break has not caused any disruptions to our production schedule as we already gave time for our studies during the planning stages of the project.

Wednesday 7th December 2011

So far we have kept up to date with the production schedule that we created and we have filmed two interviews for our documentary, we have also recorded the introduction to our documentary and the outro of it, we have also edited in some pictures with a voiceover from both of the presenters in the documentary, this posed us with some problems considering timing and getting the voiceover to fit perfectly with the background music and the pictures that were relevant to the subject the presenters were talking about.

We are currently having some problems with one of our interviewees as he is a teacher and he has barely any time to for our interview, this interviewee is Mr Jones and we are currently also trying to arrange a time and place were he will be free for an interview. This interview will not cause much disruption to our production schedule as it will easily be edited in to the documentary and it will only make up a small fraction of the documentary as a whole.

Today due to travel issues we changed our filming destination in the public from Enfield town to Waltham cross,we went to Waltham cross to ask various members of the public and some shop keepers their opinions on homosexuality and how it is perceived in society. The result of our venture was not as expected as there where no willing participants whom wanted to express their opinions on the subject and most of them said that the subject of homosexuality was "too sensitive" or they were too shy about being filmed. Due to this negative result we have decided to change the plan and remove this part of our documentary and we have decided as a group that we will get a group of people to have a discussion on the subject as this will be equally entertaining as the interview in the public would have been and this interview will be easy to set up plus it will not cause any disruption to the rest of the project and it will not create any major disruption with the dates on our production schedule.

print ad conventions

DISARMING BRITAIN (PRINT AD)

· Kids attract the viewers attention as of the signs they are making with hand (connotes a gun in his hand) which relates to the title of the documentary

· Dark lighting shows that it a serious matter and the background looks like an alleyway and viewers know that crime takes place in alleyways, serious and connotes dark days and times.

· Red title at the bottom right of the poster (connotation) of blood and violence alongside the brick wall which will pull in viewers as it is interesting and people are generally interested in violence and the real world.

· Channel 4 – channel four is an entertainment channel screening predominantly fictional programs therefore if the play a documentary it is bound to pull in viewers just by having the channel four logo on the printed advertisement.

IRAQ: THE BLOODY CIRCUS (PRINT AD)

· In this ad there is a lot of dramatization in the scene, this is to pull in the viewers, as they will be dragged in by the unusual scenery ant the look of the soldiers. Also the title of the documentary is called the bloody circus this shows that there will be clowns involved as shown in the picture and clowns are a connotation of people being silly and stupid, this will encourage the viewers to watch also as the will be interested in why the connotation of the soldiers is being used.

· The background of the ad is vey dull and it looks like a battleground this also appeals to the public as they will be interested in what is happening and the will be interested in why the soldiers are dressed as clowns, the background of the print ad is what makes it as it gives the viewers an idea of what the documentary will be about.

· The More 4 logo on this print ad is green and this is the same green as the soldiers hairs this may be another feature to attract viewers as it stands out so that the know what channel the documentary will be played on.

· More 4 is part of the 4 channel range there fore it is a well known brand, this will show the viewers that it will be purposeful and may be a good watch for them. But this is one of the lesser-known channels for entertainment therefore the viewers of the as will know that it will be a serious documentary.

THE INBETWEENERS (PRINT AD)

· In this print ad there is a colour clash between the bots in the middle and the correctly uniformed students this shows the viewers that they are “the inbetweeners” it also shows that they stand out from the crowd and that they are the main characters of the show. Also in this print ad all of the pupils and the teacher surrounding “the inbetweeners” are staring at them that is a connotation that they are rebels and they are different from the rest of the class, the reason for this is that they are supposed to be portrayed to the viewers as different and this is what pulls the viewers in to watching the series.

· The series is on E4 and E4 is a popular entertainment channel the show will be viewed as a must watch as it is on this channel and they produce several successful shows and this will be a great selling point of a the series as it will be very popular.

Conclusion

By looking at several print advertisements have discovered that to become noticed and to pull in viewers the ad should have the following:

· Bright colours

· Eye catching scenery

· Something that stands out

· The title of the documentary

· What time it will be showing

· What channel it will be premiering on

· And a colour scheme to match the purpose of the documentary

All of the above list should be included in a print ad in order to make it successful and in order to attract an audience to watch the program

Channel choice

From the results gathered from the questionnaire we narrowed a choice of five channels to two. Our final two were BBC three and Channel 4, these were the two channel our target audience felt that it was most suitable to show a documentary on sexuality. Finally we decided to use Channel 4 as our choice of channel.
