PITCH QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS
Our idea and why is it important to our audience – USP
· Our idea is to create a documentary on the topic of sexuality; we will be focusing on mainly homosexuals, as this will make the documentary seem more interesting as it will share personal views and opinions of the general public and keep the viewers interested in the film.
· Our target audience will be aimed around the age range of 16+ as people of theses ages will be interested in the documentary and they will be able to relate to the topics brought up in the documentary, the reason for this is that the people will also be emotionally developed if they are 16+ giving them a greater understanding and stronger POV on homosexuality.
· The unique selling point of our documentary is that it will include opinions of people from all ages and backgrounds giving a wider range of views and a more diverse view on the subject of homosexuality, also the documentary we aim to create will be very unique as there are very few similar that have been created.
What type of documentary would it be?
· The documentary we will be creating will be a real life documentary focusing on issues in society, and how gays are perceived in the eyes of the general public
· Our documentary will be using mainly expository, observational, reflexive and interactive modes as these will keep the viewers interested in the documentary and if we use various modes we will capture more aspects of the topic.
What other documentaries inspired us?
· Movies that inspired us to create a documentary were as followed:
o FagBug – which is a documentary based around the life of a woman who was victim to hate crime due to her sexuality, who drives her vandalized VW beetle across America to raise awareness on homosexuality and hate crime against gays and how it affects gays.
o Bi the way – which is a documentary based on how bisexuals are perceived in society and how bisexuals are increase in the modern day
· The reason that these documentaries have inspired us is that they are on sexuality and they are have been very successful in attracting the publics attention.
Is it viable? Prove it. How will we film/ manage it?
· Our project is viable as it is very practical and we will be planning it thoroughly and we will be looking for the perfect locations, we will be writing scripts for the documentary and planning interviews with people so that we can make the idea of our documentary a reality.
What locations will we use? Who will we approach to interview?
When we do the interviews for our documentary we will do some of them in the school setting to show students views on the topic of homosexuality. The documentary will also be shot at places such as peoples homes to show their views from the comfort of their own home, and many of our interviews will be on the streets the reason for this will be that that these interviews will give our documentary a sense of realism to the viewers.
We will not just approach one type of person as we aim to make the documentary as real and as unbiased as possible, at the moment we are planning to interview some random strangers on he streets, we also aim to ask students of our school and some teachers. We have also organized for some homosexuals to give us their view on the subject also and these interviews will be the highlight of out documentary.
How will the five-minute extract fit in to a larger whole?
The five-minute extract that we will be making could be extended and developed to cover all types of sexuality such as homosexuals, bisexuals, and transgender . our documentary only cover homosexuality and we will show different aspects, vies and opinions on the subject and this is just a small insight in to the subject that is sexuality. But overall the documentary that we make could easy fit in to a larger whole by just touching on all types of sexualities and how they are perceived in society.
What research will be required in order to be well informed?
To stay well informed the re search that we will be doing will be constant research in to current affairs with the homosexual community in London, we will also be researching in to similar products so that we can get inspiration and ideas from similar documentaries and these can help us make some thing as good as a successful documentary or even better.
Who is your target audience? /audience research
Both males and females from the ages of 16-40 will be our target audience the reason for this is that we think these people will be interested in this type of documentary as they will be facing the homosexual topic a lot in every day life and they will have opinions from this era whereas the older generation will have very old fashioned views and opinions and the younger generations will not be able to understand=d the views and opinions expressed through the documentary.
Why would c4 or another channel want to commission this documentary?
We think that C4 would commission or documentary as it will intentionally spark debate about the gay community, also the documentary will attract a lot of attention from the public and will be very entertaining to the general public as many of them will feel strongly fro the gay community or against it.
